He is primarily known for his excavation in the Rideau Lakes and Constance Bay areas.  At more than 85 years of age, he is currently (summer of 2001!) conducting research in the Kingston area.

- Born in Rouleau, Saskatchewan
- His working years were spent as a research scientist with the Department of National Defence
- Following his retirement in 1975 he returned to university and obtained a Master's degree in archaeology
- Gordon was one of the founders of the Ottawa Chapter of the Ontario Archaeological Society
- He has received several awards for his work including the Spririt of Trent Award from Trent University, and both the Emerson Award and the Peggi Armstrong Public Archaeology Award from the Ontario Archaeological Society
- He is currently a research associate with Trent University and the Canadian Museum of Civilization
